Fermented Turmeric Paste

I had a brainwave this week. Amazing stories lol. I’ve been throwing turmeric into everything of late and I’ve been fermenting everything of late and I suddenly thought – why don’t I make a fermented turmeric?!

Fermenting foods increases the vitamin, mineral, anti-oxidant capabilities of any fruit & vege we ferment, as well as pre-digests your food, helps detoxify your body, boosts immune, and more, so how amazing would it be to ferment turmeric?!

We all know the benefits of turmeric right? Add ginger, raw honey and cinnamon and you have Superfood status. BUT then FERMENT IT and YOU HAVE INCREASED BIO-AVAILABILITY OF THESE SUPERFOODS IN YOUR BODY.

HOT STUFF. This is where it’s at. Make your medicine your food.

Amanda’s Fermented Turmeric Paste:

Makes approx. 1 cup

Ingredients:

  • 200g turmeric, chopped

  • 1-2 inches ginger, chopped

  • 2t raw honey

  • 1/2t pink salt

  • 1/2t black pepper ground

  • 1t cinnamon

  • 1/4C coconut oil (melted so it’s liquid)

  • 4T filtered water

  • 1-2 pro-biotic capsules

  • Optional: Olive oil to seal it off.

Method:

Add all ingredients to the blender except for the probiotics. Blend until smooth. Break open pro-biotic capsules and blend again on low for 30 seconds.

Transfer to a mason jar and seal off with a layer of olive oil (this creates an anerorbic environment for the ferment). Close lid and place in a cool dark place for 3-5 days. After 3-5 days you can transfer to the fridge to use. (With the olive oil you can either stir through or scrape off before transferring to fridge).

Will last for aaaaages if you keep it in the fridge.

But it won’t last that long cos I know you will put it to good use and eat it! <3

This recipe is something you want to keep in the fridge always (a staple). Once it’s fermented think of ways you can add this to your every day dishes.

Stir through your rice or pasta, add to dips, make a turmeric hummus, use it to flavour soups, as a base for your stir-fries, a paste to go on some organic chicken wings – add in cumin & coriander seeds YUM, add it to a baked potato, slather on roast veges, even add into smoothies, muffins, cookies!

Oh and how could I forget, this is perfect to make Golden Milk with this just add cashews and water to blender with about a tablespoon of this and whizz it up for a delicious drink. YEAH!
