Anyone who has experienced Systemic Candida knows what a debilitating condition it is. I suffered from this for a number of years and I can tell you I have tried many weird and wonderful treatment protocols.
Some treatments were effective and some were not… so today I thought I’d share with you in a nutshell some of the products and practices that helped the most to getting back on track to health.
The key for me was to attack the Candida from all areas; diet, detoxing, and supplements.
And what were the symptoms? Any or all of:
Gas, bloating, cravings, acne, insomnia, PMS, depression, anger, mood swings, nasal drip, body odour, eczema, headaches, constant colds, flu, tonsilitis, bronchitis, thrush, hormonal imbalances, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pains, fungal infections, brain fog, low energy, constant tiredness, the list goes on!
Oh and how did I get tested for it? You can get a Candida antibodies test done at your Naturopath or holistic Doctor. Its a blood test that measures the secretions in the gut.
Number one rule to heal from Candida and the most important, is to cut out all sugar. This includes all fruit except for lime or lemon. Why?
Fruit is sugar and sugar in all its form feeds Candida, yes that even includes alcohol. No more drinkies for a while. Citrus fruits, particularly lemon and lime are very low in sugar and are also alkalising the body. Having Candida means you are acidic – so start consuming lots of alkalising citrus fruits! If you want to sweeten your food, Stevia is your friend as are Medicine Flower Extracts, these will replace fruit and sweeteners in your recipes. Add extra nuts, seeds, coconut oil to add bulk to recipes when cutting out dried fruit also.
Begin taking a high daily dosage of probiotics
A high quality, high strength pro-biotic with many varied strains – 8+ – 3 times a day. This will help the good guys fight the bad guys, and strengthen your gut, which Candida loves to destroy.
Start taking a supplement called Fivelac to help defend your gut against fungal outbreaks and encourage good bacteria growth
This is a type of pro-biotic which has particular strains designed to kill Candida. This worked really well for me, if you try this, be prepared for die off and detox reactions. Book a colonic, take a coffee enema – take some rest and drink lots of filtered water if this happens to you. You will come out the other end feeling much better.
A coffee enema a day keeps the doctor away! Enemas may not be everyone’s cup of tea (so to speak) however they will help flush out the candida along with nasty toxins from the liver:
I’m a huge fan of the coffee enemas, not only do they help your liver detox alot in a short amount of time by helping the liver produce Glutathione, they help flush out Candida cells living in the liver. Try 1 x a day, until you feel better. If you want to know why I love coffee enemas so much check out my blog here.
Infrared Sauna
Once a week in order to detox. Infrared light goes deep and targets organs and helps push toxins out to the surface of your skin. Cleanses and opens up the lymphatic system as well as helps with bloat, other Candida symptoms, weight loss and makes you feel good!
Colonics
Crucial to recovery. Candida produces nasty toxins that will have your body overloaded in no time. As your liver gets clogged dealing with all of this so does your colon. Until your colon is clean, the good bacteria cannot get in there and do their job. 1 x a week until you feel better. Just to give you an idea it took me 16 visits (1 x a week) before I felt like I was getting back to “normal.”
Add fermented vegetables and probiotic drinks to your diet
These really are health elixrs. They are pre-digested, so eases the load on the body, help the body produce vitamins, and minerals, anti-oxidants, increase enzymes, stomach acid and good bacteria in the gut. This is all something that Candida robs your body of the ability to do so anything you can do to help get your body back into balance will eradicate Candida.
Pau D Arco Tea
This is tree bark from a very special Amazonian rain forest tree – it has potent antifungal, anti-viral, anti-tumour properties. It has a pleasant taste. Drink 3 x a day or more! Available at most health food stores.
Vitamin C IV
Vitamin C IV is intravenously administered Vitamin C, this way large doses – 30g+ goes straight into your blood and starts mopping up toxins, fungi, c____r cells and viruses. Its not cheap but a life saver. Literally. Google for your local health care centre to find one that administers it. Don’t go asking the Doctors about this one – unless they are holistic they won’t know about it.
L-Glutamine to heal Leaky Gut
Candida overgrowth in the gut punches little holes in the intestinal walls, leading to leaky gut. L-Glutamine is critical to help heal the gut lining so you can start to digest and assimilate food properly and heal. Anyone with leaky gut issues should investigate candida overgrowth.
Glutamine powder is an essential amino acid supplement that is anti-inflammatory and necessary for the growth and repair of your intestinal lining. It coates your cell walls and acts as a repellent to irritants. Take 2–5 grams twice daily. You can get this from your health food store.
Raw Foods. Nothing is better for the body than eating foods in their whole form. Following a raw food diet will get your body back fighting fit on no time.
Raw foods have natural enzymes that ease the digestive load on the body and gives your body a break from digesting and working overtime dealing with food. This allows for some healing time. Try it, you’ll love me for it!
If you’re curious to get started, check out our 7 Day Raw Food Plan. Its like a little mini detox and you will be amazed at how in just 7 Days you can switch up your energy levels and feel great again. Comes with a meal plan, bonus recipes and “how to” videos from me.
I also recommend taking Candida Cell Wall Suppressor, a new supplement just out and getting great results.
It breaks down Chitin, Candida’s outer cell wall, and that then lets your immune system do its job of destroying the rest of the candida cell altogether.
And most of all – be kind to yourself! Natural healing and healing from Candida takes time, keep focused and you will get there. If I can do it you can too!
Tell us your experience of healing Candida, what worked for you what didn’t? How long did it take for the Doctors to diagnose you and how? We would love to hear your story!
